How to tell if your cool room is not functioning up to standard

3 Minutes Posted on:

Cool rooms are useful for commercial premises to keep items under controlled temperatures. They are mostly used in restaurants and industries to keep food items under refrigerated conditions so they can remain fresh for longer.

It is important to identify when your cool room may be experiencing operational issues. This is because slight fluctuations in the set temperature can damage your refrigerated items and result in significant losses. Here are some common signs of a dysfunctional cool room.

1. The thermostat reading is fluctuating from your desired setting

One of the most common signs of a damaged cool room is a fluctuating thermostat reading. You may have set the thermostat to maintain a temperature of below 0o C, but the cool room temperature is always higher. This fluctuation may be caused by poor airflow in the cool room or a damaged refrigeration mechanism that is failing to keep temperatures low.

It may also be the case that the insulation in the cool room (such as walls and roofs) is damaged. Have the cool room inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

2. Food items are rotting faster than usual

If you notice that refrigerated food items are beginning to rot before their shelf life is over, you probably have a damaged cool room. Start by inspecting food items in the top shelf to check for rot.

If the food came in fresh and is rotting despite the cool room temperature, you may have a problem with the thermostat or the compressor of the cool room.

3. Water is accumulating in stored products

Are your stored items becoming waterlogged or moist while in the cool room? Water build up may be caused by excess humidity in the cool room itself. Make sure there is proper flow of air and that the fan is not damaged.

In addition, check the defrosting drains to ensure they aren't blocked. Blocked tubes will cause water to drop back into the cool room and settle on stored items. Water may also occur due to warm temperatures in the cool room that cause food items to thaw.

4. You're unable to control the refrigeration settings

If you're having trouble adjusting the temperature settings of your cool room, there could be many different issues causing the problem. It may be something as simple as a broken switch, or a more complicated issue such as a broken circuit breaker or a faulty line voltage.

Inability to control the cool room temperature is an issue of concern, and all items should be temporarily removed until the cool room is fixed. To learn more, contact refrigeration services for assistance.

The Many Benefits of Installing HVAC Hello! My name is Jake. I am the kind of guy who finds out about a subject and then who must learn everything he can about it. A subject I have focused on in recent times is HVAC. This might seem a little strange. However, my interest was sparked when an HVAC contractor visited my home to install a new air con system. He was really friendly and he took the time to answer my questions. Since then, I have been doing everything I can to learn about HVAC. I hope you enjoy reading what I have written on my blog.
